Ecologic demonstrates conservation commitment with American Forests to help protect and restore the environment by planting and caring for trees

WAUKEGAN, ILL. (May 11, 2010) – Ecologic Industries, LLC, an Illinois-based manufacturer of furniture for student residence halls, has helped American Forests^® plant over 5,000 trees throughout the U.S. to aid in reforestation efforts. Ecologic’s corporate sponsorship of American Forests is part of the company’s commitment to a sustainable environment.

The corporate sponsorship of American Forests’ efforts is just one example of what we do to support sustainability,” says Ecologic president Ken Klein. “Ecologic manufactures furnishings for U.S. college and university residence halls using environmentally friendly materials and sustainable business practices.” Ecologic products, including student desks, loft beds, storage units and lounge furniture, “are designed and constructed of renewable and recycled materials whenever possible,” says Klein. “In fact, Ecologic’s first student furniture line was created using a hard plastic composite made from recycled milk cartons.”

American Forests partners with communities on local efforts that restore and maintain forest ecosystems. American Forests’ work includes planting trees, calculating the value of urban forests, fostering environmental education, and improving public policy for trees at the national level. The non-profit organization has a goal of planting 100 million trees within the next decade.

Since its founding over 20 years ago, Ecologic has implemented company-wide conservation efforts. Klein notes, “We use recycled leather in our student lounge series. We also are now utilizing environmentally farmed timbers in many of our student desks and beds. And we use recycled and reclaimed steel.”

Energy-saving efforts don’t end there for the manufacturer of student housing furniture. Ecologic has implemented energy conservation measures at its headquarters and its factories. “We regulate light usage and thermostats at the company headquarters,” says Daniel Goldman, Ecologic’s CEO. “We have even implemented a rainwater recovery system in the factory to reduce water consumption. Much of the rainwater recovery can be used in our finishing line’s spray booth.”
